Ground Breaking this Friday

ASFL Outdoor Classroom Creates Living Laboratory

The Academy for Science and Foreign Language (ASFL) School has begun a collaborative project to construct an outdoor classroom.  ASFL has partnered with parents, the community, and a local landscape designer to create a living laboratory.  The outdoor classroom will provide real-world experiences in caring for our environment.  An outdoor classroom will give teachers the opportunity to integrate environmental education into their curriculum.

Ground breaking is scheduled for Friday October 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM.  The public is invited.

If sufficient funding can be raised, buildings, walkways and the water features will be completed this school year.

Help Needed

Mrs. Traylor has some jobs for some parents that would like to do some work on the Outdoor Classroom.   Where the old walkway used to be there is a 4 in layer of gravel.  This needs to be shoveled into a wheel
barrel and moved to another location.  I also have lots of dirt that needs to be spread using shovels.  I have a few plants that need to be moved and transplanted.

Volunteers Need

We will begin working on the Outdoor Classroom Project  at 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. this Satuday, September 11.

Approximately 10 volunteers are needed to work. I hope that you can assist with this project.

Work has started!!!

Dear Teachers and Parents,
We are moving along with our outdoor classroom project and we need your assistance. Mr. Kost, a landscape architect, is volunteering to assist us with the project. Our service learners are researching and making plans on specific jobs.
Mrs. Traylor and Mr. Kost have outlined specific tasks that need to be completed. Please review the list below and send Mrs. Traylor an e-mail if you are able to assist. Her e-mail address is atraylor@hsv.k12.al.us.
We are so excited! If you have an opportunity, please stop by to take a glance at the outdoor design that is posted on the window located near the exit to the greenhouse, which will be demolished soon. The proposed designed is absolutely breath taking!
